STEPHEN SMITH

A Chartered Management Accountant who founded the company in 1982. Stephen is committed to the continuous improvement, development and marketing of the training events. His approach is extremely practical and he is keen to ensure that UKTraining continue to deliver high quality low cost training to its customers.

He presents financial training courses at public venues, live online and in-house for clients.

 
ALEXANDER ALTMANN
Alex is a Director at Blick Rothenberg and he helps clients deal with many different aspects of Tax. He has a Master’s degree in International Tax Law and he is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
 
BARRY DURMAN

Barry has held a variety of line management positions in Customer Services and Credit Control and he now runs his own successful independent Credit Management Consultancy.  He also has extensive experience of delivering training courses on all aspects of credit control.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Credit Management (FICM) and a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultancy (FCMC).

 
BOB LINDSAY
Bob has over 14 years of experience in the privacy and data protection area acquired with Hewlett-Packard (HP) and over 30 years of experience in the IT industry. While at HP he was a significant contributor to internal papers, policies and guidelines on use of employee and clients personal information, transborder data flows and data protection audits. Since 2014 Bob has been running his own company, offering practical advice and guidance to businesses on all aspects of EU privacy and data protection topics. He holds the ISEB (now BCS) Certification in Data Protection and the CIPP/E (Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe) qualification.
 
DAVID JOEL
David is a Chartered Director and has been facilitating, delivering and mentoring at senior management and director level for the last ten years in both the public and private sectors. He has also provided training and consultancy services to the Institute of Directors for 11 years and has broad practical experience of business change management and in mergers and acquisition.
 
DEREK ECCLESTON
Derek is an experienced, practical consultant, specialising in the provision of advice and training on employment law and employee relations. He spent over 20 years in senior HR roles in a number of industries – local government, engineering and financial services, prior to joining the Employment team of a prominent law firm. After 6 years Derek left to set up his own consultancy, in 2001.
 
DERMOT O'BRIEN

Dermot heads up his own VAT consultancy firm: Dermot O’Brien & Associates. He provides expert advice in relation to VAT and Relevant Contracts Tax. The firm is Ireland’s leading and longest established independent VAT consultancy.

He spent 10 years with the Irish Revenue Commissioners before moving into the private sector where he held senior positions with several large accountancy practices before establishing his own firm. He has also been the President of the Irish Taxation Institute and is an expert advisor to the IMF. He regularly presents training courses on VAT and RCT and speaks at conferences.

 
ERIC MILLER

Eric is an independent Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA/AIIT qualified) specialising in Indirect Tax with over 24 years experience of VAT, Customs, Excise and other indirect tax.  He has excellent experience of dealing with complicated issues and providing indirect tax advice drawing on his experience in practice and HMRC.

At HMRC he worked in several functions - initially as an Excise Officer with the then HM Customs & Excise moving on to become a Senior VAT Assurance Officer and his last role with HMRC was a Tax Specialist in the Large Business Office where he set out to provide practical resolutions.

He left HMRC to join Ernst & Young as an Indirect Tax Senior Manager and then became the Director of VAT and Indirect Taxes at Campbell Dallas.  He now works as an independent consultant helping businesses of all sizes deal with VAT matters.

 
IAN WHYTESIDE

Ian is an experienced payroll and taxation specialist with particular expertise in the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS). He is a member of the Association of Taxation Technicians, a fellow of the Association of Accounting Technicians and a member of the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals, where he is a senior examiner. Having previously worked at a senior level for House of Fraser, Clydesdale Bank and a large Local Authority he now runs his own consultancy advising on payroll issues, implementation of new systems, auditing external payroll providers and other taxation matters.

 
JAMES LOLE

James is a Chartered Accountant and was previously the National Technical Director for a top 10 UK accountancy firm, where he used his practical experience to provide client focused solutions and training in all areas of financial reporting and auditing.

Now as a freelance consultant, he is able to provide the same level of technical support to a number of clients. He is also a technical author and wrote 'Preparing FRS 102 Company Accounts', published by Wolters Kluwer.

 
JEAN REUBEN

Jean is a Chartered Certified Accountant and provides professional accountancy services to a number of clients. She is a very experienced trainer and specialises in helping accounting staff understand the principles of financial accounting

She is an accredited trainer for the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers and helps train clients in the use of several computerised accountancy packages.

 
JO MARSHALL
Jo has more than 20 years’ experience of working in payroll roles, most recently for a software house with many external clients. She now runs her own payroll services company and delivers consultancy and training on payroll issues for a variety of clients.
 
JOHN SPARGO

John Spargo has over 30 years experience as a policy advisor on Customs and Excise Duties in the UK and Europe. His comprehensive track record includes ten years leading BP's Customs and Excise Duties compliance and advisory team in the UK, and ten years as a senior advisor for oils and alcohols excise duty policy with the former HM Customs and Excise.

John is a highly respected trade representative with over ten years advocacy experience in the European oil industry as former Chair of the Indirect Tax groups in the UK Oil Industry Taxation Committee (UKOITC) and the Brussels-based European Petroleum Industry Association (EUROPIA).

 
KATE UPCRAFT
Kate is a regular conference speaker and writer on legislative issues, including tax and National Insurance, benefits and the whole range of employer compliance responsibilities. She undertakes consultancy work with employers assisting them with topics such as payroll health checks, RTI and auto-enrolment, systems selection and departmental re-engineering.
 
KEVIN GUY

Kevin is a Chartered Accountant and he has his own accountancy practice.  With his vast knowledge and experience he can readily help people resolve Payroll, Accounting, VAT and Company Administration issues.

He delivers Financial, VAT and Company Law courses at public venues and live online. He also delivers in-house training programmes for clients.

 
KIRSTY SEMPLE
Kirsty Semple ACIS LLM is a Chartered Secretary in Public Practice, specialising in charity governance and compliance. About half of her time is spent acting as Secretary for a range of organisations – either on an interim or part time basis. The remainder of the time she provides consultancy, training and support to the Boards of voluntary sector organisations. She is an experienced lecturer, who also has up to date practical experience of the role of a charity secretary. Kirsty is editor of ICSA’s Charities’ Handbook.
 
LES HOWARD

Les is a VAT consultant and trainer who works with numerous businesses providing VAT solutions and support. His vast experience enables him to help people with many aspects of VAT.

He regularly helps people by providing advice and dealing with HMRC on their behalf including representation at Tribunals.  He has also written about VAT in technical periodicals, and in general business magazines.

 
LIZ MAHER

Following her time at HM Customs and Excise, Liz worked for Ernst and Young as one of their corporate VAT services directors.

As the owner of Centurion VAT Specialists she now delivers practical VAT support to a diverse range of clients. She also delivers VAT training in the UK and internationally. Liz is a regular VAT speaker at events for professional bodies such as the AAT, ICAEW, ACCA and CIMA.

 
ORLAGH KELLY

Orlagh is a Barrister specialising in Data Protection law as well as a Trainer and Consultant on data protection issues and GDPR. She has set up successful businesses in the technology and legal sectors that build upon her extensive experience - including THINK Data Protection, which operates throughout the UK.

 
PAUL LOWER

Paul is a finance trainer with 25 years sharp end board level experience in world class international companies. For more than 30 years he has trained business managers to help them understand the key financial principles and apply them to improve their business decision making and bottom line results.

He has solid business experience as a CFO and Finance Director; hands-on experience building great companies and improving profit and shareholder value. He uses his experience to bring his financial training courses to life with real business insights and relevant case studies and exercises.

 
PAUL MURPHY

Paul is an accomplished and highly-qualified training professional with a successful background in learning and development, 15 years management experience and a strong interest in government, the law and business.

Paul has, over the years, designed, developed and delivered comprehensive Business and Management Skills programmes that have included the following topics: Employment Law, Data Protection, Project Management, Corporate Social Responsibility and a variety of essential management skills. He has also offered invaluable support and advice to many people setting up their own business.

He presents employment law seminars at public venues and for in-house clients.

 
PEDRO PESTANA

Pedro worked with Deloitte in their Global Tax Centre in Brussels for many years where he was responsible for advising people on all aspects of VAT compliance throughout all 28 EU member states and other European countries. During this time he edited the ‘Quick Reference to European VAT compliance’ published by Kluwer Law International.

He then spent two years in London as a Senior Manager with EY in their European Tax Centre before establishing his own business, Marosa Ltd in the UK. Pedro spends much of his time travelling to clients throughout Europe helping them with VAT compliance matters. He also offers a one stop solution for completing VAT returns in all European countries.

Pedro presents at major conferences in Europe and as well as his work for Marosa he is fortunate to be the Director of ‘One, two…tree!’ a Spanish NGO working on education in Central America which he founded several years ago.

 
PETER SAMMONS
Peter Sammons has worked in Procurement for more than 30 years. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply and has authored many books and magazine articles on supply management.
 
PETER THOMPSON
After 20 years of commercial and industrial experience in the building services, civil engineering and energy sectors, Peter became an international trade trainer in 1997 specialising in export and import procedures, documentation and customs compliance, shipping and logistics and letters of credit. He has delivered training courses at locations throughout the UK and Europe.
 
PETER VAN DUZER
Peter is an expert in company compliance issues who has advised the boards of some of the largest companies in the UK. He is an authoritative speaker on many issues that affect companies and their directors. He has been able to help organisations of many different shapes and sizes.          
 
PHILIP DAVIS

Philip delivers a wide range of management workshops and training programmes to a variety of audiences, both nationally and internationally. His training style is highly interactive enabling the participants to extract the best outcomes from the course.

 
ROGER MASON

Roger is a qualified accountant and Company Secretary. He has held several senior positions and for twenty years was a Company Secretary and Financial Director. His approach is practical and based on vast experience. He is also the author of several books.

He is the author of Company Law: The Authoritative Guide for Directors and Secretaries which is a comprehensive book covering all aspects of Company Law.  This book is given free to all people who attend The Role of a Company Secretary in the 21st Century or Company Law - A Company Director's Survival Guide. 

He delivers training for company directors and company secretaries at public venues and live online. He also delivers in-house training programmes for clients.

 
RUTH CORKIN

Ruth is Chair of the VAT Practitioners Group National Technical Committee and a member of the Joint VAT Consultative Committee, both of which mean that Ruth communicates with HM Revenue and Customs at a high level.

Ruth has over 20 years of experience of VAT. She gained her experience with HM Revenue and Customs, large global accountancy firms and also the mid-tier firms. Throughout this time there has been a significant exposure to the VAT issues facing many businesses and not-for-profit organisations.

 
STEPHEN POPE

Stephen is a VAT Specialist at Fiscal Solutions. He is responsible for the preparation and processing of VAT returns, Intrastat reporting, EC Sales Lists and the submission of VAT claims in various EU Countries.

Stephen liaises with various tax authorities across the EU.
